The co-operation between Allan and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
was renewed early in 2013.
Arthur Riothomas.
This was a new development and direction for CMWZ.
Allan Withington wrote the music and the manus for a theatre production
based on the life and adventures of a mercenary soldier, Arthur Riothomas, in the employ of the Roman Empire around 400A.D.
A small group of musicians from the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra provided the necessary musical background and agreed to a `bus mans
holiday` in France.
A puppeteer from Bergen, dancers from Stavanger and France and a choir and soloists also from Monflanquin completed the ensemble.
On a beautiful summers evening in July 2013, in the medieval town of Monflanquin, south west France , Arthur Riothomas was given its
Premiere. A large and enthusiastic crowd was present in the town square
to witness this compelling story.
The Baroque family.
In September Allan devised and produced a concert linking all the cultural elements of the Baroque period, together. It was performed as a history lesson with 4 pupils from Skeire skole , on the outskirts of Bergen, asking pertinent questions to the presenter, Minken Fossheim. Each aspect was explained and demonstrated seperately ending up with a homemade Opera based on Georg Frederik Handel`s , Zadok the Priest. Dancers from Langhaugen pitted modern dance with a minuet and gave that extra dimension to the spectacular finale.
Musical Christmas Cards.
Nothing new about the theme her but the presentation was slightly
different. The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra boasts an amazing array
of different nationalities. CMWZ used this to show Christmas and Christmas traditions from different continents. The show was presented by Norwegian
childrens` T.V. host Silje Winje with both help and hindrance the irrepressible puppet `Fantorangen` carefully controlled by Berit Nermoen.
The afternoons events were produced and wound together by
Kirsten Lindhardt Withington working for CMWZ.
The Story of Maria von Trapp.
This classic show was dusted off and given a new lease of life.
Beautiful music from both the classical world and from the film `Sound of Music`.
Auditions were held to find our von Trapp children and choirs
from Nordvik, Krokeide, Riple, Skeie and Langhaugen schools all contributed
to around 300 performers on stage. Again, a real audience success.
