Gi Folket Brød og Sirkus.
Conducted by Kjell Seim. This was the first time we worked with Bergen Byspill, a small group of actors, who can basically do anything. Pjortor was a Russian circus director who had lost `his music`. The orchestra would simly not play for him. Violetta then travels around the world and collects a balloon (which contains music) from each country in an attempt to reinstate Pjortor. This was truly fantastic. Music included Holberg suite (Norway), African drum music, Indian flute music and much more.
How Norway became Norwegian.
Conducted by Ole Kristian Ruud and presentd by Trond Viggo Torgersen. A history lesson really, with all types of Norwegian folk music. Very interesting. Included the original speech from 17th. May 1814 and Trond Viggo persuaded the audience to actively participate in a 17th of May parade.
Stars and Stripes Forever.
Conductor and soloist was Andrew Litton. presented by Jarle Solheim. All the usual pomp associated with such a concert and an interesting experiment. We engaged two of our local wind bands to march past each other, using the front of the stage in the Grieghall, playing different marches at the same time, in order to demonstrate the thoughts of Charles Ives. Andrew organised a small conducting competition using children from the audience.
Limbo på Lørdag.
Conducted by Ingar Bergby and with dancers, Hege Rognøy Fossåskaret, Ole Admund Gjersvik, Kjersti Tufta and Raul Barreras.
The whole show was stiched together by the extremely colourful, Chiku Ali. This was a look at South American music, the dance numbers being arranged by Sverre Indris Joner. Composers represented included Villa Lobos, Alberto Ginastora and Silvestor Revueltas.
